Terrance Michael Drew, born on November 22, 1976, is a Kittitian medical doctor and politician who currently serves as the fourth Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Drew graduated from Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College in 1996. Early in his career, at the age of 19, he worked as a part-time teacher at Basseterre High School. His passion for medicine led him to pursue medical studies in Cuba, where he graduated with first-class honors from the Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Villa Clara in Santa Clara in 2005.
Upon returning to Saint Kitts, Drew served as a general practitioner at the Joseph N. France General Hospital. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas, graduating in 2013. His medical career, spanning over two decades, included establishing his own private practice.
Dr. Drew’s transition into the political arena began in 2021 when he was elected leader of the Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) on November 28 of that year. Under his leadership, the SKNLP secured a decisive victory in the general election on August 5, 2022. This win led to his swearing-in as Prime Minister on August 6, 2022. In addition to his role as Prime Minister, he holds a substantial portfolio, overseeing the critical areas of Finance, National Security, Citizenship and Immigration, Health, Human Resource Management, and Social Security.
On February 10, 2024, Prime Minister Drew married Diani Jmesha Prince-Drew in Barbados. Diani Prince-Drew is an attorney and diplomat from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Prime Minister Drew has one son, Terrance Drew Jr.
Since taking office, Prime Minister Drew’s administration has articulated a clear vision, centered on a “Sustainable Island State Agenda” (SISA), aimed at fostering a resilient, diversified, and environmentally conscious nation. Key governing policies and initiatives under his leadership include Healthcare Transformation with an emphasis on universal health coverage; Economic Diversification and Sustainability which focuses on strategic investments in technology, agriculture, infrastructure, and entrepreneurship to create new job opportunities and empower citizens; Good Governance and Security which involves strengthening law enforcement agencies and implementing community-based safety programs. Finally, his agenda calls for Social Development which is described as investing in social programs and initiatives aimed at empowering youth and marginalized groups, including the disabled and elderly. Some of the programs include ASPIRE which provides financial literacy training and investment opportunities for young people.
