Cornell Leverette Moore, an accomplished lawyer and bank executive, was born on September 18, 1939, in Tignall, Georgia, to Jesse L. and Luetta T. Moore. Raised in Statesboro, Georgia, he graduated from William James High School in 1957. Moore went on to earn his A.B. from Virginia Union University in 1961, followed by a juris doctorate from Howard University School of Law in 1964. While in law school, he served as a staff attorney for the United States Department of the Treasury. 

Following his graduation, Moore began his professional career as a trust administrator at Crocker National Bank. In 1966, he became regional counsel for the Comptroller of the Currency at the U.S. Treasury Department. He later returned to the banking sector, joining Northwestern National Bank of Minneapolis as assistant vice president and legal officer from 1968 to 1970. Over the ensuing years, he held executive roles in various financial institutions, including executive vice president and director of Shelter Mortgage from 1970 to 1973, director of Shelard National Bank from 1973 to 1978, director of Golden Valley Bank from 1978 to 2002, and senior vice president and general counsel at Miller & Schroeder Financial Inc. starting in 1986. He simultaneously served as president and CEO of Lease More Equipment from 1977 to 1986. Additionally, Moore became part-owner of the Minnesota Twins baseball team in 1986.

In 1995, Moore joined the law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP, where he has represented leading energy and natural resources companies. Moore has dedicated his time and expertise to numerous boards, including William Mitchell College of Law, Howard University, Virginia Union University, Minneapolis Public Housing Authority, Twin Cities Diversity in Practice, the Boy Scouts of America, Johnson C. Smith University, and Dunwoody College of Technology. His many honors include the Pan African Community Endowment Legacy Award, the Kappa Alpha Psi Distinguished Citizen Award, the Child of America Award, and the Whitney M. Young Service Award from the Boy Scouts of America.

Moore served as Grand Sire Archon of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc. from 2006-08.

Cornell Leverette Moore is married to Wenda Weekes Moore; together, they have three children
